Overall Safety Profile
GHRP-2 is less selective than ipamorelin, producing notable cortisol and prolactin elevations alongside GH release. These off-target hormonal effects are the primary trade-off for its superior GH-releasing potency. Approved as a diagnostic agent in Japan, providing some safety validation for acute use.
Reported Side Effects
- Cortisol elevation: Clinically significant — may counteract anabolic benefits with chronic use
- Prolactin elevation: Can affect reproductive function, libido, and mood
- Appetite increase: Moderate hunger stimulation (less than GHRP-6)
- Water retention: GH-mediated
- Flushing and tingling: Common immediately after injection
Important Limitations
Chronic cortisol elevation promotes visceral fat storage, muscle catabolism, and immune suppression — partially counteracting the intended anabolic effects. Prolactin elevation can cause gynecomastia, reduced libido, and mood changes. Long-term safety data from research use is absent.
Potential Contraindications
- Hyperprolactinemia or prolactin-sensitive conditions
- Cushing's syndrome or cortisol-related conditions
- Active cancer
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
